World-class pianist and conductor Kevin Class


World-class pianist and conductor Kevin Class, a native of Belgium, will be a guest artist at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County from April 14 – April 18 and as such will be offering UW-BC students and the public the opportunity to attend two free recitals.

Kevin Class presently serves as Director of Collaborative Piano at the University of Tennessee. Prior to this appointment he served on the Opera Studies faculty of Indiana University where he administered and served as Music Director and conductor of the Martina Arroyo Opera Program.

Class acquired a diverse musical education in both Europe and the U.S. As a pianist, since his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 19, he has been a frequent soloist in such venues as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Geneva’s Victoria Hall, and Vienna’s Musikverein and was named a Fellow of the Flemish Community by the Belgian government in 1998. Class has long been active as a conductor and a collaborative pianist in both instrumental and vocal repertoire.

On Tuesday, April 15 Kevin Class will be performing a solo piano recital at 7:30 p.m. in the UW-BC Fine Arts Theater. In this recital he will be performing Sonata No. 31 in A Flat Major, Op. 110 by Beethoven, Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26 by Schumann, Theme and Variations along with Sonata (1945) by Fracalanza, and Sonata No. 3, Op. 23 by Scriabin.

On Wednesday, April 16 Kevin Class and Benjamin Schoening, UW-BC assistant professor of music, will be presenting a collaborative piano and voice recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. They will be performing works by Schumann, Vaughan Williams, and Gounod.

Both of the recitals are open to the public free of charge.
