UNIVERSITY of WISCONSIN COLLEGES

CAMPUS CLIMATE SURVEY

A campus climate survey will be offered at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County, March 31-April 18. As one of thirteen campuses in the UW Colleges, UW-Barron County strives to be a place where students, faculty and staff feel comfortable and welcomed. Chancellor David Wilson states, “I value and believe in the central importance of an open, tolerant, welcoming work and learning environment, and in respect for the minds and creativity of all people, being ever mindful of the richness inherent in the widely diverse backgrounds of those in our campus communities.” A welcoming and inclusive climate is grounded in respect, is nurtured by continuous attention to climate, and by open dialogue.  In order to better learn how life is experienced day-to-day on campus, the UW Colleges is participating in a project that is part of a UW System initiative, the UW CollegesCampus Climate Survey.

This survey will be open to everyone on campus—students, staff, and faculty—and everyone is strongly encouraged to take part. Everyone’s participation in this survey is valuable, as we can only begin to make the campus a better place to learn and work once the campus hears back from the student body, staff and faculty.

As part of the University of Wisconsin System-wide Climate Project, UW Colleges agrees that the first step in creating such a welcoming environment is to assess the current climate in order to identify important issues and then to create ways for the organization to address them. The results of this survey will be used to enhance the climate at each of the thirteen UW Colleges campuses, UW Colleges Online, and the central administrative offices in Madison. These results will assist the university in developing recommendations for inclusion and diversity; and also to assist all areas of the campus in focusing their efforts to make the campus inclusive and welcoming for all.

Approved by the provosts and supported by the chancellors, this survey is being conducted at five University of Wisconsin institutions, University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point and our own University of Wisconsin Colleges.

It is important to note that: this is a confidential survey that can be completed either online or in written form. Answers will be strictly confidential and anonymous. Each campus will receive reports of group results only and no individual will be identifiable in the results. The survey will be available March 31 – April 18, 2008. Respondents who complete the survey would be given the opportunity to enter a drawing. Eight respondents will receive a $50 or a $100 gift certificate to the campus bookstore. A total of six $50 and two $100 certificates will be given away across the UW Colleges.
