Four courses will start on March 31; two online courses for kids and two courses for ballroom dancers. The April roster of short courses include watercolor, photography, chess, and ACT prep classes.
Sponsored by the UW-Barron County continuing education department, the two online classes for kids are “Video Game Design” and “Elementary Engineering using LEGOs.”
“Video Game Design” is a seven week online course appropriate for ages 10 and older and is instructor facilitated. Participants will learn to design and modify arcade-style video games including how to control characters, objects and outcomes of the game, increase the difficulty level, and add more features. Participants will design their own version of PacMan and several other games, and explore graphic design and graphic animation topics. A fast internet connection such as DSL or Cable Modem will be needed. Class fee is $99.00.
“Elementary Engineering using LEGOs” is a seven week online course appropriate for ages 8 and older. Participants who register for this course will receive a LEGO kit with over 1,000 advanced technic pieces. Once the kit is received participants can start the course. The class will cover engineering theory and instruction with topics that include gears, levers, wheels, and axels so that participants can experiment with six complex building structures. Class fee is $139.00 which includes the LEGO kit that participants own.
“Ballroom Dance: Waltz and Swing Level 1” and “Ballroom Dance: Rumba and Swing Level 2” are both four session classes that will meet Monday evenings, March 31 – April 21 in the UW-BC Gym. Course instructors are Dave and Karen Goggin from the Eau Claire area. With over 30 years of combined professional teaching experience, they teach a combination of private and group lessons in the Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and Marshfield area. The Level 1 class meets from 6:15 – 7:10 p.m. and the Level 2 class meets from 7:15 – 8:10 p.m. The class fee for each course is $45.00.

Test Preparation Class on April 5, Eat Your Weedies! on April 7, Nature Photography: Discover Spring on April 8, Chess: The Game of Kings on April 9, Glorious Green: Watercolor to Welcome Spring on April 17, and An Evening of Dance on April 25.
