The April roster of short courses being offered at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County include watercolor, photography, chess, ACT prep classes along with an evening of dance.

Nail the ACT! Test Preparation Class will meet on Saturday, April 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the UW-BC Blue Hills Lecture Hall. The registration fee of $49.00 includes materials and a boxed lunch. The day will consist of test-taking and college transition strategies, strategies for solving math problems, proper usage of English-rhetorical skills and mechanics, and analysis and interpretation of scientific research summaries and conflicting hypotheses.

Eat Your Weedies! is a one session class that will meet on Monday, April 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in room 402 in the UW-BC Student Center. Course instructor is Master Herbalist and Naturopath Gigi Stafne. Participants will learn how to rid the body of accumulated winter toxins and how to rejuvenate the body through the cleansing and detoxifying of major eliminative channels and organs. Course fee is $25.00.

Nature Photography: Discover Spring is a six session course that will meet on Tuesday evenings, April 8 – May 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in room 228 Ritzinger Hall. Course instructor is freelance photographer/artist Julie Bower. Participants will learn the basics of photography with emphasis on composition, lighting, exposure, aesthetics and techniques specifically related to outdoor nature photography. Students must provide a digital or 35 mm camera. Course fee is $89.00.

Chess: The Game of Kings is a three session class that will run on Wednesday evenings April 9 – 23 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in room 237 Ritzinger Hall. Course instructor is Dr. Eric Kasper who has been playing chess since the age of seven and has an online adjusted Elo rating of approximately 2000. The first session will explain the rules of the game and board set-up along with the pieces and how they move. The two final courses will be used to learn many time-tested strategies and tactics. Course fee is $30.00.

Glorious Green: Watercolor to Welcome Spring is a four session class that will meet Thursday evenings April 17 – May 8 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building art room. Local color pencil and watercolor artist Leni Sovacool is the course instructor. In this course artists will learn how green is incorporated in almost all watercolor work, how the best green does not come from a tube, and begin to see green in hidden places. The course fee is $39.00.

Participants in An Evening of Dance will gather in the UW-BC Commons on Friday, April 25 from 7:30 – 10:00 p.m. Dance instructors Dave and Karen Goggin from Eau Claire will begin the evening with a dance lesson which will be followed with music for practicing all of the classic dances. Admission to the evening is $15.00 per person.
