The Association of American Geographers
Dr. Cary Komoto, Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County, was a session presenter at the 103rd Annual Meeting of The Association of American Geographers (AAG).

The public is invited to register and compete in the UW-BC Chess Tournament that will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

World Tai Chi Day
A local celebration of World Tai Chi Day will be observed on Wednesday, April 23. All persons who have practiced Tai Chi or those who would like an introduction to the popular exercise are invited to participate in the event.
Local Tai Chi instructor Lynda Sirianni will lead the free demonstration at 6:30 p.m. in the Ritzinger Hall hallway at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake. Read More...Red Cedar Choir
The Red Cedar Choir will present their Spring Concert on Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake.
Under the direction of Benjamin S. Schoening, UW-BC Assistant Professor of Music, the choir will perform the Vivaldi “Gloria” as well as “This Marriage” by Eric Whitacre, “Dirait-on” by Morten Lauridsen, “Lord Whose Love in Humble Service” by Daniel Kallman, “Sing Me to Heaven” by Daniel Gawthrop along with other selections.
The Red Cedar Choir is comprised of UW-BC students along with community vocalists.
Admission to the Spring Concert is a free-will offering. For more information, contact Schoening at 715-234-8176 ext. 5480.
Early Bird
A four page insert to the Early Bird Shopper will detail the “Something For Everyone” summer programming at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County in Rice Lake.
The insert will be in the Early Bird the weekend of April 26. The publication will feature information on credit summer courses for degree pursuers and the Educator Academy credit courses for area educators. The non-credit programming includes professional development opportunities, a three day seminar for nature lovers/writers, and plenty of programs for the outdoor enthusiast.
The Early Bird shopper has a circulation of 32, 000 households extending through all or parts of Barron, Polk, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, and Rusk counties.
Walleye Club Scholarship
The Sheboygan Walleye Club is offering a $500.00 scholarship to a sophomore/upper classmen/grad student who has declared his/her major in: Biology, Wildlife management, Fish biology, aqua biology, or any related fields. Application is due by June 1st to be considered for fall semester. Please stop by student services for application and more information.

Scholarships Available
The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is seeking applications for its 2008 Scholarship Program. Three $200 scholarships are awarded annually to the following: one high school senior continuing in music or theatre, a college student continuing in music or theatre, and a Theatre Guild volunteer interested in improving their theatre skills through a class or workshop. Microsoft & Software to Students
Microsoft Announces Free Development Software For Students. Microsoft announced today that college students will now have access to development and design tools free of charge. DreamSpark is a Web site where students can download a suite of Microsoft development and design software, including:
- Visual Studio 2008
- Expression Studio
- Windows Server 2003
- XNA Game Studio 2.0
In order to take advantage of the free service, students must verify their student-status every 12 months.
Hoeft in Morocco
Mary Hoeft, Professor of Communication Arts and French at the University of Wisconsin-Barron County, has been selected as a 2008 Fulbright-Hays Study Abroad Seminar Participant. She is one of sixteen educators chosen to study in the African country of Morocco. Read More...
