The Top Thirty(-Three) Films of 2007

Saints and Sinners,

The Oscars are arriving on Sunday, February 24th, writer's strike be damned.  Place your bets.   I saw more films in the theatre in '07 than I have in a very long time.  Avoided presumed shitcrap, i.e. Bratz, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Daddy's Little Girls, Stomp the Yard, Epic Movie, Premonition, Because I Said So, Are We Done Yet?, Delta Farce, Kickin' It Old Skool, Mr. Woodcock, Feel the Noise, The Comebacks...but I did see Norbit...I should have stabbed my eyes out and saved $7.   These are the best films (original, yet epic but also otherwise, with a chance of being unusual and/or glorious though always bold) of 2007.  My 2 cents...

1. Grindhouse
2. 300
3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
4. The Host
5. There Will Be Blood
6. Once
7. Into the Wild
8. Juno
9. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
10. Michael Clayton
11. American Gangster
12. 3:10 to Yuma
13. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
14. Superbad
15. The Simpsons Movie
16. No Country For Old Men
17. Eastern Promises
18. Rescue Dawn
19. 28 Weeks Later
20. Gone Baby Gone

I'm throwing three honorable mentions in this year to a trifecta of blow-my-face-off action extravaganzas that understand and celebrate the idiocy/genius of The Guy's Action Movie (I count 12 guns amongst the three posters) - shameless, hilarious, self-aware, and energized: Hot Fuzz, Shoot 'Em Up, & Smokin' Aces
