The best albums of 2007
There's so much I haven't listened to that would most definitely make the cut if it found its way to me somehow.
There are probably a bunch of great albums that got left out because I haven't heard everything...I made a big return to older stuff this year -- listened to a lot of Queen -- but this is what I loved this past year:
1. Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (Foo Fighters)
2. On Letting Go (Circa Survive)
3. The Dethalbum (Dethklok)
4. Masters of Achievement (Teaneck)
5. In Rainbows (Radiohead)
6. Era Vulgaris (Queens of the Stone Age)
7. Icky Thump (The White Stripes)
8. Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. Two: No World For Tomorrow (Coheed & Cambria)
9. And (Jonah Matranga)
10. Year Zero (Nine Inch Nails)
11. Volta (Björk)
12. The Alchemy Index - Vols. I & II: Fire and Water (Thrice)
13. The Color Fred (The Color Fred)
14. Silent Treatment (The Bled)
15. Combinations (Eisley)
16. Threads of Life (Shadows Fall)
17. Zeitgeist (Smashing Pumpkins)
18. When Your Heart Stops Beating ((+44))
19. Alright, Still... (Lily Allen)
20. Planet Earth (Prince)
An honorable mention to film scores/soundtracks this year. 2007 was an unusually strong year for music in films, according to my own self, with the tunes factoring in as being key components to several satisfying and liberating film experiences. These four brought the thunder, heightening the level of their respective works to much greater artistic levels and raising the bar for every other film seen thereafter:
There Will Be Blood (original music by Jonny Greenwood)
Into the Wild (original music by Eddie Vedder)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Once
Logan Doe
