Textbook Check-out Procedures

The textbook rental is a way for students to save money because you are not required to purchase textbooks for many of your classes.  New textbooks could cost over $100 each.  We purchase used books when we can and check them out to you from the library.

Before you can check-out your textbooks you will need a print-out of your current course schedule from PRISM and a valid UW-BC student ID card (bearing the validation sticker for the current semester).

Computers are available in the Library if you are not able to print your schedule at home.  Ask any of the staff if you need help.

The textbooks are shelved in alphabetical order by Title in the Library Reference Room.  Lists of the books required for each course are posted in several places around the textbook area.  If you have trouble finding a book just ask for help from any of the library staff.

After you have all the books you need, bring them and your valid UW-BC student ID card to the front counter, the library circulation desk.

A few things to remember as you pick up your textbooks.

  • Remember, that you are responsible for returning the textbook that you check out at the end of the semester in good shape and on time

  • Failure to return you textbooks by the tenth day after the last final will result in your paying for the total replacement cost of the book plus overdue fines and processing fees.

  • You will also be billed for lost, stolen, or damaged books.  To avoid mixing your textbook up with those checked out to other students take advantage of the labels and non-damaging tape we provide.  Your name in your book keeps you from returning the wrong book.

  • Also, remember to check the condition statement at the front of the book within the first two weeks of classes.  If you think the book is in worse shape than stated, let us know and we will gladly review and adjust the online record.  We do not fine for normal wear of textbooks.
