If you were fortunate enough to attend this session you heard eloquently described the breadth of outreach supported by technology and driven by the mission of libraries at every level. Technology is called into service in order to deliver free access to the highest levels of scientific inquiry, or to local history, culture or artistry . For others it is used to increase the ability to store and search for information in multiple languages with multiple languages. While enriching not only the description of information but the also the collaborative connections to information access and storage on the web library; technical services are taking aim at seamless resource delivery and inquiry that travels in and out of the library freely. Listening to the needs of the users, the broader community and sharing freely were goals expressed by several speakers.
Why note such disparate efforts? In celebration of the diversity of library outreach and to acknowledge that underserved populations do embody diverse needs which challenge us and also inspire our awe. Libraries stand ready to expand our reach to assist the previously underserved with great respect for every individual who speaks more than one language or straddles more than one culture. We honor each quest for knowledge with awareness that each culture has it’s gifted who are ready to soar. We want to be of assistance and are eager just get to know emerging scholars in hope that we can learn to be better resources to each other.
