Library and Technology

Locating Materials in our Library

The major areas of the library include:

  • Book Stacks
  • Microfilms
  • Newspapers
  • Periodicals
  • Reference Room
  • Reserve Room
  • Textbook Area
 

Book Stacks are found on the main floor.  Books are arranged by Library of Congress (LC) Call Number. 

Microfilm periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title.  Microfilm books are arranged by LC Call number.  The microform cabinets are located in the Reference Room. 

Newspapers are arranged alphabetically by title on the open shelves by the southwest windows on the main floor.

Periodicals are located in three areas.  The newest issue of each subscription periodical is found on the slant shelves by the southwest windows on the main floor.  Older issues are cumulated in boxes in the south end of the book stacks.

Reference Room is in the northwest corner of the library and houses the non-circulating collection of reference books (shelved by LC call number), college catalogs (in alphabetical order by college name by the Reference Librarian's Desk), the University of Wisconsin-Barron County Archives, the microforms and the Vertical File (a collection of sheets and pamphlets filed by informal subject headings).

Reserve Room houses the collection of Class Reserve Materials, sound cassettes, sound CDs, CD-Roms, VHS tapes and DVDs. 

Textbook Area is located on the main floor and the lower carrel floor on the south end of the book stacks.  In this area the text rental collection is arranged in alphabetical order by title.
