About

I received my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from UW-Madison. In addition to teaching chemistry and the history of science, I am currently Chair of the UW Colleges Chemistry Department — so I’ve been spending a fair amount of time traveling to visit the other twelve UWC campuses and interacting with their faculty and students. It has been rewarding to work and serve with my colleagues across the state, and it is interesting to note the similarities and differences between our sister campuses. Recently, I’ve spent more time sharing my knowledge of science and chemistry with younger students, from elementary school through high school, and I’m looking forward to doing this more often in the future.

My family and I live just north of Rice Lake on a 20 acre farmstead with too many outbuildings. I have two daughters and two sons: Ricki who is 27, Gus 18, Sal 15, and Rosie 13. We have sheep, chickens, geese, four cats, and a large garden. We like to cook and eat foods from a variety of different cultures. We also listen to many kinds of international music in addition to American blues, rock, jazz, and old-timey country — just about anything except pop music.
