An in depth study of morel mushrooms. Upon completion students will be able to safely identify all forms of true morels. They will also be able to accurately identify the false morels. Students will also learn how to store and cook with morel mushrooms. If morels are not found another edible, spring mushroom, the Pheasant’s Back, (Polyporus squamosus) will likely make part of our wild mushroom meal following our foray. In addition to morel mushrooms, this class will also cover wild ramps(onion/garlic) & the Ostrich fern (fiddlehead). Two common spring edibles found in WI. The objective of this class is for all students to be able to harvest & confidently eat wild, spring food. Following a two hour presentation, students will be lead by Tavis into the woods where all mushrooms found will be identified. Students will also gain an understanding of common inedible and poisonous mushrooms. Mushrooms will be prepared on site for all to sample.
