Dr. Sue C. Patrick

Professor of History and Associate Dean

Ph.D., Indiana University, 1988

M.A., Texas Tech University, 1977

B.A., University of Texas, 1975

Dr. Patrick is married and lives on Rice Lake. She decided to become a history major when she was in ninth grade when she fell in love with historical fiction. Having discovered that she can't write dialog, she pursued a career as a professional historian. Her specialty is banking and financial history of the United States. She has taught at UW-Barron County since Fall 1990. Before that she taught in South Carolina, Kentucky, and Indiana. She was born in Dallas, Texas in 1954.  In 2004 she was appointed associate dean at UW-BC, and as a result her teaching load has been cut in half.

Her courses at UW-BC in 2005-2006 are listed below.

Fall 2005

Spring 2006

Dr. Oscar B. Chamberlain

Instructional Academic Staff in History

Ph.D., History, University of South Carolina, 1996

M.A., History, Texas Tech University, 1979

B.A., History and English, North Texas State University, 1975

Dr. Chamberlain was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. His love of history came in part from his family, from a singularly excellent high school teacher, and from a number of fine professors at North Texas State. His primary field is U.S. Constitutional history with a particular interest in state constitutions in 19th-century America. He says he is fortunate enough to be married to another fine historian, which guarantees interesting conversations at home. He has taught in Kentucky and at Mount Senario, UW-BC, and UW-Eau Claire.

His course list for 2005-2006 at UW-BC is below.  However, this may change if the U.S. Department of Education funds a major grant to UW-Eau Claire.  Then he would be director of that project and would not be teaching at UW-BC at all.

Dr. Paul Chase

Although his primary responsibility at UW-Barron County is as its dean, Dr. Chase enjoys teaching and especially enjoys teaching history.  As a result he frequently has classes listed in the course schedule.  His teaching load for 2005-2006 is listed below.

Bernard (Barney) Slowey

Instructional Academic Staff in History

MA (1973), UW-Stevens Point

BS (1966), UW-Stevens Point

Brad Jarvis, who taught here last year, decided to pursue an opportunity in upstate New York.  Mr. Slowey is replacing him in Fall 2005.  He was inspired by his high school history teacher who was very innovative in his teaching.  Mr. Slowey taught high school American History at Ladysmith and Phillips high schools.  Receiving his administration certification in 1992 from UW Superior, he then worked in various administrative positions in Birchwood and Chetek.  He has taught for St Thomas, Silver Lake, Mt Senario, and UW-Eau Claire and is a consultant specializing in helping schools and teachers become familiar with the latest brain research and how that applies to teaching.  In addition, he spent 4 years in the Marines and 27 years as a head basketball coach.  His teaching load for Fall 2005 is listed below.  He may or may not return in the Spring 2006 semester.
