Dr. Patrick is married and lives on Rice
Lake. She decided to become a history major when she was in ninth grade when
she fell in love with historical fiction. Having discovered that she can't
write dialog, she pursued a career as a professional historian. Her specialty
is banking and financial history of the United States. She has taught at
UW-Barron County since Fall 1990. Before that she taught in South Carolina,
Kentucky, and Indiana. She was born in Dallas, Texas in 1954. In 2004
she was appointed associate dean at UW-BC, and as a result her teaching load
has been cut in half. Her courses at UW-BC in 2005-2006 are listed

Dr. Oscar B. Chamberlain Instructional Academic Staff in History Ph.D., History, University of South

State University, 1975 Dr. Chamberlain was born and raised in
Dallas, Texas. His love of history came in part from his family, from a
singularly excellent high school teacher, and from a number of fine professors
at North Texas State. His primary field is U.S. Constitutional history with a
particular interest in state constitutions in 19th-century America. He says he
is fortunate enough to be married to another fine historian, which guarantees
interesting conversations at home. He has taught in Kentucky and at Mount
Senario, UW-BC, and UW-Eau Claire. His course list for 2005-2006 at UW-BC is

Although his primary responsibility at UW-Barron County is as its dean, Dr. Chase enjoys teaching and especially enjoys teaching history. As a result he frequently has classes listed in the course schedule. His teaching load for 2005-2006 is listed below.

Bernard (Barney) Slowey

Brad Jarvis, who taught here last year, decided to pursue an opportunity in upstate New York. Mr. Slowey is replacing him in Fall 2005. He was inspired by his high school history teacher who was very innovative in his teaching. Mr. Slowey taught high school American History at Ladysmith and Phillips high schools. Receiving his administration certification in 1992 from UW Superior, he then worked in various administrative positions in Birchwood and Chetek. He has taught for St Thomas, Silver Lake, Mt Senario, and UW-Eau Claire and is a consultant specializing in helping schools and teachers become familiar with the latest brain research and how that applies to teaching. In addition, he spent 4 years in the Marines and 27 years as a head basketball coach. His teaching load for Fall 2005 is listed below. He may or may not return in the Spring 2006 semester.
